Should talented athletes sacrifice their education to explore their full potential in the sporting arena? Discuss the pros and cons.

I think that talented athletes should not sacrifice their education to explore their full potential in the sporting arena. One should view sports and games as leisure activities that help to build up our bodies and allow us to interact with other people. But if you are very outstanding in a sport you can always develop it to the fullest potential without sacrificing your education. Education on the other hand provides us with a better understanding of the world we live in and the people around us. Education is also necessary as it prepares us for the working world.

Some talented athletes also excel in their studies. Either they are naturally able to do that or they are able to juggle their studies with their sport. But for some, their sport may take up a lot of their time so for these athletes, they can choose a system which fits their schedule or catch up on their studies when there is no competition. When a sportsman reaches his peak, he may want to ‘retire’ from competition and become a coach instead. But if he has other qualifications, he can have more choices.

I feel that one should aspire to do well in both studies and sports and be all-rounded. In this way, we can have a balanced life and more career opportunities.
